About Studio Latitud

Beautiful. Useful. Genuine.

At Studio Latitud, it's me, Maria Richardsson, responsible for the creativity. Ceramics is my material of choice, and I strive to create things that are used over and over again. Design is not only about surface, there must be function as well. The mug must be comfortable to hold, the jug must be pourable, the vase must be a lovely background to the flowers.

I want to keep it simple. Clean lines, calm colors. I like when you see the colors and textures of the different clays, and love the contrast between raw clay and glossy glaze. You should see that it is not perfect. The glaze may have run or splattered a bit when glazing, but that makes it vibrant. It is handmade, perhaps with a slight unevenness or skew. Just a little, so that it doesn't disturb the overall impression.

Some call it wabi-sabi, a Japanese tradition of accepting things as they are, in close harmony with nature. Wikipedia states that "aesthetics is sometimes described as a beauty that is flawed, ephemeral, and incomplete ". To me it is genuine.

In the fall of 2020, I rediscovered ceramics. For me it became a creative outlet, and since then I have had a hard time tearing myself away from the wheel. The name Latitud, on the other hand, has stuck with me for a long time, since the beginning of the 2000s. As a freelancer, I worked under the name Latitud, as a reminder to navigate correctly and find your own way. So what better fit then than naming my creative business Studio Latitud?

The range of pieces in my shop will vary over time. Some will return, others will be new. Be sure to leave your email address or follow me on Instagram , and I promise you'll be the first to know when anything new happens.

Welcome!

Maria
